Mixed Berry Jam
This mixed berry jam recipe has brown sugar, chia seeds, and a touch of lemon. It’s also super quick and easy, which makes it a perfect starter recipe for anyone new to cooking. It yields a very small batch and can be used in various ways.
First, we’re going to wash our strawberries and blueberries thoroughly, especially if they are not from your garden. I suggest buying organic berries if possible. Then we’ll remove the strawberry stems and cut the strawberries into small pieces. If you don’t have brown sugar or don’t want the jam to appear dark, then white sugar is an acceptable substitute. Lemon juice and chia seeds are very important as they’ll help to thicken the jam.
Did you know that chia seeds can expand up to 10 times their original size? It’s true! And they absorb both liquid and flavors in the process. They are a great source of fiber that reduces cholesterol, improves heart health and may help lose weight. They also have plenty of protein and they’re antioxidants.
