Quick & Easy Tofu Steaks
These quick & easy tofu steaks are flavorful, packed with protein, and have a variety of uses. They’re great in sandwiches, (the perfect veggie sandwich, vegan pesto panini), salads (Thai salad, easy tossed green salad), pasta (lemon pepper pasta, garlic herbed spaghetti), soups (tomato soup, ginger tamari soup), curry (sarson ka saag, cajun coconut curry), bowls, or by themselves as an appetizer with your choice of dipping sauce. They’re also a great plant-based substitute for those trying to cut down their meat intake or add plant-based protein to their diet. And they require only five minutes of prep. They really are that easy to make.
We won’t use many ingredients to make these tofu steaks. We’ll simply use a light seasoning that easily goes with most any dish. Tofu itself doesn’t have much of a taste, which means it can absorb flavors. You can marinate it overnight if you like. I make medium-sized triangular slices, but that’s just my personal preference. They can be bigger or smaller, thicker or thinner, or in various shapes and will still come out great.
To make this recipe healthier, we’ll be baking these tofu steaks instead of frying them. You can also use an air-fryer. They’ll still come out just as moist, slightly crispy and delicious. They require only olive oil, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder, salt and black pepper. If you do choose to pan fry them, I recommend sautéing them with fresh basil leaves for extra flavor.
I worked briefly at a cafe in Minneapolis, MN that loved my tofu steaks recipe and paired them with all kinds of dishes. They especially go well with Peanut Sauce or Tahini Sauce. This recipe is vegan and also gluten-free.
