Vegan Apple Pie
This deliciously easy, homemade vegan apple pie has caramelized cinnamon apples and a dairy-free butter pie crust. It tastes so much like the real thing, you won’t be able to tell that it’s vegan simply by eating it. This apple pie recipe always brings grace to the table during the holiday season!
I really never intended to be a baker. But my husband has a sweet tooth, and I try to make his guilty pleasures as healthy as possible, which is how this vegan apple pie recipe was born. I enjoy this pie as it is, but sometimes I add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on a warm slice before serving. It’s a matter of personal preference, or how the mood strikes me.
This is one of the classic recipes to make for the holiday season. And it is more fun when you make it from scratch. If you prefer your pie gluten-free, then feel free to use GF flour.
The first time I made this recipe was the night before Thanksgiving. I wanted to wake up having a slice of pie with a morning cup of coffee or hot chocolate. We absolutely love the layers of flavors in this vegan pie. It’s a perfect way to start your day, or works just as well as a family dessert.
I encourage you to share your experience in the comments below if you tried this Vegan Apple Pie or made it differently. Vegan Apple Pie
Ingredients
Filling
- 3 lbs Apples peeled, cored, sliced
- 1 cup Water
- ¼ tsp Salt
- 4 tbsp Cane Sugar
- 2 tbsp Cornstarch
- 1½ tsp Cinnamon Powder
- 4 tbsp Lemon Juice
Crust
- 2½ cup All-Purpose Flour
- 4 oz Vegan Butter chopped
- 1 tbsp Cane Sugar
- ½ cup Water ice-cold
Instructions
Filling
- In a small mixing bowl, whisk together salt, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon powder, lemon juice and water, then set aside.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat, then add apples and water and sauté until the apples are soft. Stir in seasonings and mix well, making sure the apples are completely covered with glaze. Remove from heat.
Crust
- In a food processor, add flour, butter and sugar. Pulse ingredients while slowly adding water until it forms into a dough.
- Transfer dough to a flat surface. Sprinkle some flour and form dough into a ball. This takes about 1 minute. Make sure all ingredients are combined and that butter is not melted.
- Cut dough in half. Roll both halves in a thin, round shape. Place them on a flat tray while adding a layer of parchment paper in between and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Assembling
- Preheat the oven to 350F.
- Remove parchment paper and use fingers to press one crust into a pie pan without stretching.
- Cut the second crust in the shape of long ribbons. Place these strips on the pie over and under one another, covering the entire area in a woven pattern.
- Fold-in all corners of the crust. Or trim them, if preferred.
- Bake for 45 minutes until the crust is golden.
